Our programs focus on four primary objectives.
OVERVIEW:
MEDICAL – HIV/AIDS Treatment – Today nearly 4,000 HIV+ patients are care for by 52 full-time medical staff at the Holy Family Center (HFC) at Nazareth Hospital. The clinic provides antiretrovirals and assists patients with supplemental feeding programs, social service work, counseling and varied support groups. Tree of Lives provides funding for many of HFC programs such as Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, Pastoral Counseling, Patient Support, Cervical Cancer Screening and Urology Surgery.
EDUCATION – HIV/AIDS Prevention – Tree of Lives supports the training of teachers, counselors and lay individuals who will work with youth and adults who are HIV+ and those at risk. Tree of Lives supported programs include Nursing Scholarships, Art Therapy, Church based pastoral counseling and Youth Scholarships.
IMPROVING HOME LIFE – Our presence at Nazareth offers a visible witness to Jesus Christ and his call on our lives. We are committed to bringing people to a personal relationship with Christ, as well as helping to improve their lives here on earth. Tree of Lives partners with the larger community in Kenya through their support of programs as the Joy Children’s Home, Community Outreach, the Korogocho Hair Salon, program, Mutumo Teen Initiative, Living Waters for the World water filtration installations and HFC Life Skills training courses.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT and POVERTY RELIEF – People infected with HIV/AIDS and their families typically are very poor and often unable to pay for food, health care and other basic necessities. Tree of Lives provides several programs to economically help patients and their families. These programs include African Boxes of Love, Income Generating and Loan programs in cooperation with Kenyan NGO’s and Life Skills training such as soap making, home gardening and animal husbandry.
Over the past several years, eight different churches from Virginia, Florida, North Carolina and Wisconsin participated in pilgrimages to Africa. Each pilgrimage is designed to expose those from the U.S. to the breadth of ministries taking place in Kenya. Pilgrims work alongside our compassionate partners in a variety of ministry areas. They get to know our partners and those we are called t serve. These relationships are often lifesaving on both sides. As we experience all that Christ has for us on these trip we also spend time in directed prayer, spiritual formation and journaling. This holistic approach to outreach is at the heart of the Tree of Lives Mission!
