CHECK UPS AT THE JOY VILLAGE

Meet Dr. Emma Jarrett. She is a third-year Pediatric resident at C.H.K.D. in the Global Health track. Due to pandemic travel restrictions, she has been unable to participate in international medical missions during most of her training. Recently, however, she had the opportunity to travel with part of the Tree of Lives medical team, Drs. Glen Green and Laurie Talty, to Kenya visiting Nazareth Hospital, the Holy Family Center, and Joy Village. There she helped conduct hearing and vision screens on all of the JV children, measured their growth parameters, addressed their intercurrent illnesses and completed their annual physical exams. In addition, she spent a day with one of the HFC counselors making home visits on pediatric patients. She also traveled to Gertrude Children’s Hospital in Nairobi for a sub-specialist consultation on one of our JV children. And, she spent a little time walking the beautiful tea fields surrounding Nazareth too.

Emma is an excellent clinician and a joyful presence. When she finishes her pediatric training next month she will head to Washington State to serve as a pediatrician in an underserved community. Emma and EVMS' Global Health appreciate the opportunity Tree of Lives afforded her.
